To be told
The knowledge as an instrument to shorten distances.
Never in this time, in an emptiness of historicization, it is
important to maintain the memory of your own roots; only through their recovery
there can be social evolution.
The research of consent looks with suspicion any form of freedom
and creativity perceiving it as dangerous, and at times, even the memory falls
into this category.
Due to the media and migrations, that connect people throughout
distances, our world seems to transform itself more and more into a global
village. Within this process, the adequate tools to accept and understand the
diversities are not supplied.
The stories of “To be told” narrate the identity that balances
between oblivion and musealization, in a continuous tension, that testify of a
gap between places and generations, showing an often common anthropologic
matrix. In a Europe wide evolution of standardization, it is necessary if not a
priority, to define what a minority is; in order to favor the safeguard of them
and to permit their integration.
Within the many stories, the experiences of traumatic punctum that
break the continuity, are recurring; events that crack the connective tissue of
self seen as a waste of identity. Being part of a minority doesn’t only acquire
a meaning under a collective ethnographic, social and historic point of view
but it becomes an integration in the identification of the individual.
The protection of the minority’s rights is one of the most
important aspect of the European Union’s program related to the defense of
human rights, that implicates the awareness of the importance of identities and
diversities for the creation of democratic and pluralist societies.
The stories of “To be told” have been shared orally throughout the
workshop and spread globally through an online platform. They act like the oral
tradition of fairytales that anciently had the purpose of knowledge’s
transmission and the reaffirmation of traditional values, contributing
indirectly to the perpetuation of memory, to the regulation of everyday life
and to the valorization of uses.
“To be told” places itself as a creative and individual act, where
the artistic expression of each participant finds the possibility to realize
itself in multiple expressive forms. Too often we tend to not appreciate
enough, in a sort of suspension of the critic consciousness, these stories that narrate about those cultural and ethnic
minorities.
